Beginner Acrylic Painting project problems …?
I'm painting my air conditioner to look like R2D2. I have two problems 1) The surface plastic is slippery, and the paint will not adhere to it very well, making the paint very uneven looking. Is there anything I can put in first to make the surface more receptive to acrylic paint? 2) I need to paint some very straight lines. I thought the way was to put tape around the line for stop me "painting outside the lines." The type of work, but the paint bleeding through the tape in a number of places. Is there a little special tape or trick to this? Thanks in advance, I can not wait for the finished product!
As already mentioned, I too would recommend for gesso the surface for painting. They also spray paint (I know Krylon makes one that adheres to plastic). Maybe that will give the area required to take your acrylic paint. The tape is right. Get yourself some clear acrylic medium. Brush very lightly in the tape that overlaps your paint line. This helps to prevent paint from entering the tape. Remove the tape carefully so as not to scratch the surface of the painting. Hope this helps! Natalie
